HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES?

Are you considering playing soccer for one of the top High School programs in Ohio?  First and foremost, Mariemont soccer players are representatives for their school wherever they go, and they are expected to uphold the foundation of integrity that's been laid before them. All players are expected to make wise decisions on and off the field, both during the soccer season and the "off" season.  Here are a few things that past players have achieved to help set the standard for Mariemont Women's Soccer:

  • Play one of most demanding schedules in high school soccer (every Top 10 Division II team in Cincinnati, plus several teams ranked among the best in Ohio)
  • Cincinnati Hills League fields 5 of Cincinnati's top 10 Division II schools
  • Nationally recognized by the NSCAA for team academic achievement
  • Recognized by Ohio's state coaches association for academic achievement

Coaching Philosophy

  • We will be recognized for exceptional sportsmanship and making the right decisions on and off the field.
  • We will be recognized for intense competitiveness, and our unwillingness to give in to any opponent.
  • We will make every attempt to make the soccer experience a fun and uplifting part of each player's education by creating a competitive and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • We will work and play according to the principles of ACTS - Attitude, Commitment, Tenacity, and Skill.

ATTITUDE

"The single most important aspect of the success of a team is attitude."

  • All players should come to practice and games with the mentality to have fun and to improve themselves as players.
  • All players should come out everyday with the desire to learn new techniques and strategies, the eagerness to repeatedly practice an exercise until excellence is achieved, and a willingness to accept constructive critique.
  • All players are expected to give 100% effort in every exercise, every sprint, and every game, whether in a training environment, or in matches.
  • All players should have the willingness and desire to outwork their teammates in training, and their opponents in matches.  We can accept being beat by a superior team - we will not accept being outworked.

COMMITMENT

"The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching."

  • All players are expected to attend every training session and game.  Any absences or late arrivals should be communicated to the coaches prior to the event, and consequences will be handled on an individual, case-by-case basis.
  • All players should understand that playing time will be influenced by a player’s overall dedication, skill level, match-ups with the opponent, and level of performance and effort in games and the training environment.
  • All players are expected to follow and respect the drug, alcohol, and tobacco policy as adopted by the Mariemont Board of Education.  This is also a commitment to their families, their teammates, and their coaches.

TENACITY

"Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal:  my strength lies solely in my tenacity."

  • Players should understand that only through their persistence will they achieve their goals, and ultimately the team's goals.

  • Players should understand that a stubborn determination to excel, both offensively and defensively, will help them gain advantages over their teammates and their opponents.

SKILL

"Technique is the mechanics behind solving a problem - skill is the ability to solve the problem regardless of mechanics."

  • Players should be able to display high levels of technical ability, and to apply them in tactical situations (decision-making).
  • Players should be willing to devote the time and energy to improving their skills, which will only be achieved through practice on their own.  (e.g. 1000 Touches exercises - http://www.soccerquest.ca/skills/1000_touches.htm )

How Will You Succeed?

  • Make every effort to improve yourself and prepare for the aspects of soccer mentioned above.
  • Make your desire to perform well evident to the coaching staff.
  • Communicate to the coaches your desire to improve, your goals, and your concerns.
