August 24, 2009 In the season opener for the Warriors, everything went right. The Warriors JV squad started off the evening with a 7-0 win over the host Roger Bacon Spartans. Led by goals from Samantha Goheen (2), Ingrid Mongenas (2), Madison Saffin (2), and Lauren Finucane, the Warriors looked as solid as ever. Keepers Hanna Reeder and Erica Brock recorded the shutout. The main event saw a very controlled possession game, and a passionate defensive effort by the varsity Warriors. About 12 minutes into the match, junior midfielder Ceeanna Zulla crossed the ball in from the left side, finding sophomore forward Morgan Beck about 8 yards out to put away the eventual game winner. About 2 minutes later, Zulla served up senior Kelsey Hogan to the give the Warriors the 2-0 edge. Shortly after, set up by a great run by junior Tess Jenike, Hogan found the ball at her foot, and struck a laser from about 18 yards out. Tremendous defensive performances from senior Megan Holland and junior Emily Moreton contained the Spartans for the better part of the half. With about 1:30 remaining in the period, Hogan hit a highlight reel first-timer from about 30 yards out just under the crossbar to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead at the half. The second half saw the Warriors pick up right where they left off. Hogan did what she does, slicing her way to the end-line, and slotting one in for sophomore Erica Grant to put away . With about 30 minutes to play in the match, it was Hogan once again involved, playing Zulla in, who put it away for the 6-0 lead. The Warriors remained in control for the remainder of the match, thanks to exceptional performances by sophomores Elizabeth McCracken and Kaila Roberts in the back, and Emily Mehl in the midfield. Keepers Timia Ingram and Hannah Bruggeman recorded the shutout. The Warriors are back in action
