Get ready to follow the Warriors through a remarkable season.  After a tough preseason with great showings against Div. I powers Turpin and Fairfield, and Div. II power Hartley out of Columbus, the Warriors slunked through the next week as they dropped an ugly decision to Fenwick, then allowed the alumni to escape with their first win in 10 years.  It was the kick in the shorts the girls needed to begin a grueling  2007 schedule.  Keep up with all the action here as we continue our tradition of excellence!

v. Roger Bacon

Beginning the season with an opponent from the GGCL is always a challenge, one the Warriors look forward to.  What the Spartans had in store for us, however, was not what we expected.

Conditions were great for a night of soccer, and both teams were prepared to give it their all.  The first 10 minutes saw a pretty even match, with both teams creating some opportunities.  At the 27:00 minute mark, however, the Warriors gave up an own goal on a corner kick.  Four minutes later, the Warriors countered as junior midfielder Aggie Howland slotted the ball across the face of the goal to find fellow junior midfielder Amy Zepf charging in on the far post to put it away.  About 10 minutes later, the Warriors put another one away as junior striker Amy Sattergren sliced her way down the middle of the park, finding junior midfielder Andie Jackson at the far post to take the one goal lead.  Before the half, the Spartans would equalize the score by dropping a bomb from about 35 yards out just under the cross bar.

The second half saw much of the same, with both teams shutting down countless opportunities.  Bacon, however, would go on to score 3 unanswered goals in the span of about 25 minutes.  Just when the game was thought to be out of hand, the resilience of the Warriors showed up.  With just over 12 minutes remaining in the match, freshman midfielder Emily Mehl played a diagonal ball to Zepf on the left side.  Zepf collected it and crossed it in, finding Jackson in front of the goal mouth to put away her second of the night.  Minutes later, the Warriors earned a free kick.  Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan struck a hard shot to be miscleared by the Bacon defense, that Sattergren jumped on to pull the Warriors within a goal with five minutes left to play.  Clearing everything that came near them, the Spartan defense denied the remaining opportunities for the Warriors to hold on to the 5-4 victory.

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity for posting a huge 6-1 win over the Spartans.

Next up for the Warriors, 2006 state runner up Badin as we travel to scenic Hamilton for what is bound to be a battle.  See you there.

v. Badin, #1 State/City ranking

As always, the Warriors knew they would have their hands full with the Rams from Badin.  Unfortunately, the Warriors fell short of their "A" game.

Badin began the game with control, and maintained control for the better part of the first half.  At the 21:00 mark, they popped in a 2nd chance to take the 1-0 lead.  The Warriors held strong, though, thwarting any quality chances they were able to put together.  The attack of the Warriors was nowhere to be found, however, and they had to go into the break down a goal, and only producing one shot in the half.

The second half was a tremendous turn around for the Warriors, with play evening out.  With the power of junior striker Amy Sattergren wreaking havoc on the back line of the Rams, and the speed and finesse of midfielders Amy Zepf and Kelsey Hogan, the Warriors created some chances of their own, only to be shut down by the Ram defense.  The Warrior back four, led by the tremendous efforts of junior Cece Ebelhar snuffed out the Badin chances. . . until the 10 minute mark.  The Rams put one in on the far post for the two goal lead, and iced it a few minutes later by tucking in a header at the near post.  There's a reason they were the 2005 state champs and 2006 runner up - they're pretty good!

The Warriors return with their home opener against Cincinnati Country Day Saturday at noon.  Don't miss it!

August 25, 2007
v. CCD, 13th city ranking

Hot!  Conditions for today's match can't be described any other way.  It wasn't easy for either team to get going, but it turned out better for one than the other.

There's not much to say about the first half.  Neither team could really put together an attack, with the Warriors only getting 2 shots off to CCD's 1.  Both defenses held their lines and shut down one another time after time.  It wasn't until the break that we started seeing some quality soccer.

Mariemont came out of the break with a different look, and a different heart.  It paid off immediately.  Less than two minutes into the half, senior defender Chelsea Ferguson cleared the ball out about 40 yards up field, finding junior midfielder Amy Zepf to collect it.  Zepf combined with junior Amy Sattergren to get in behind the CCD line, then slotted it across to junior midfielder Aggie Howland, who put it away for her first tally of the season.  Play would remain in control of the Warriors for the better part of the half, with their defense led by Ferguson, juniors Cece Ebelhar and Sarah Dillman, and freshman Emily Moreton, allowing no shots from the Indian attack.  More scoring opportunities would come for the Warriors by sophomore Kelsey Hogan and Sattergren, but it wasn't until about 8:00 remaining that they found the back of the net again.  Sophomore Megan Holland gained control of the ball at midfield and played forward to Hogan.  Hogan then took the 25 yards in front of her and ripped a low shot to the far post from about 20 yards out to give the Warriors the 2-0 lead.  The lead would hold until the whistle, giving the Warriors and freshman keeper Timia Ingram their first shutout, and victory of the season.  Way to go Warriors!

The Warriors return to Kusel on Wednesday as they take on league rival Finneytown, with JV beginning at 5:00 and varsity at 7:00.  See you then.

August 29, 2007
v. Finneytown, CHL rival

CHL matches are some of the toughest of the Warriors' season every year.  The Wildcats from Finneytown brought everything they had to Kusel, but it just wasn't enough.

The opening whistle triggered an all out attack by both the Warriors and the Wildcats.  A couple of chances by Finneytown threatened the Warriors defensive side, only to be saved by junior keeper Adele Bruggeman.  The Warriors controlled the better part of the period, with chances by juniors Aggie Howland, Amy Sattergren, and Amy Zepf coming up just short.  But with just under 14 minutes remaining, it was sophomore Kelsey Hogan that put one away.  Senior Elise Kubicki cruised up the left side of the field, turned the corner, and slotted a textbook ball across the frame.  Hogan swept in and put it away to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead at the half.

The second half saw a more composed Warrior side, and a slightly desperate Wildcat team.  Throwing three forwards at the Warrior defense, led by senior Chelsea Ferguson and sophomores Megan Holland and Sanam Zahedi, still was not enough to get in.  After several more attacks led by Sattergren and Howland, it was at the 17:00 mark that they finally connected.  Sattergren played out wide to Howland, who went endline, and played across the goal mouth to Sattergren to put it away.  The 2-0 edge would hold until the final whistle, and the Warriors would walk away with their second straight shutout.  Bruggeman ended up with 4 saves on the night to record her first shutout of the season.  Welcome back, Adele!!

The Warriors travel to Wyoming next week for another CHL matchup.

September 5, 2007
v. Wyoming, #11 ranking, CHL rival

After the Warriors junior varsity squad entertained the crowd to a 1-0 win behind the goal by sophomore Katie Brumfield, we weren't sure the night could get any more exciting.  Wow, we couldn't be more wrong!

At the opening whistle, play went in favor of the Warriors.  It didn't take long, however, for the Cowboys to respond.  At the 32:00 mark, junior Rebecca Schuholtz found her way through the back line of the Warriors to take the early 1-0 lead.  Play would balance out throughout the half without a whole lot of offense coming from either side.  The Warriors went into the halftime break down a goal, and with quite a bit to think about for the next period.

When the whistle blew to begin the second half, one would have thought a different Warrior squad took the field.  Play turned strongly in favor of the Warriors immediately, with close chances coming from juniors Amy Sattergren and Aggie Howland.  But it was the offensive explosion by sophomore Kelsey Hogan that led the way for the Warriors.  Hogan found her way into the final third and ripped not one, but two low shots to the far post that just missed by inches.  At the 27:00 minute mark, her explosiveness paid off.  Junior Amy Zepf worked her way into the box at the endline.  She played the ball in from about 5 yards out, and Hogan put it away to equalize the score.  The Warriors would control play for about the next 15-20 minutes, when the Cowboys would regain their form and start threatening the Warriors again.  Junior keeper Adele Bruggeman snuffed out all of their opportunities, saving all three shots they were able to get off.  As the final minutes counted down, the Warriors would go back on the attack.  With just under 3 minutes to play, Howland collected the ball about 35 yards out and played in behind the Cowboys defense, finding sophomore Megan Holland pushing through.  Holland touched it forward, then just out of the keepers reach to put it away for the 2-1 lead.  The Warriors would keep the one goal edge until the final whistle, winning their third straight, and taking a 2-0 record in the CHL.  Special credit should be given to the defensive play by the Warriors, led by junior Sarah Dillman and freshman Emily Moreton.  Great job Warriors!

The Warriors host Oakwood this Saturday at Kusel Stadium at 1:00 PM for the JV, and 3:00 PM for the Varsity.  Don't miss it!

September 8, 2007
v. Oakwood, #4 Dayton ranking

. . . and the hits just keep on coming!!  Mariemont's JV squad excited yet another crowd by coming back from a two goal deficit and with goals by Matisse Rogers and Brittany Zimmerman in the final 5 minutes of the game, pulled out the draw against Oakwood.    Then the varsity took the pitch and put on another awesome show!

Oakwood, ranked #3 in Dayton, always has a top notch squad, and almost without fail, brings their best whenever they face the Warriors.  Today was no different.

The beginning of the match saw both squads sizing each other up, finding whatever weakness they could.  The Warriors found their openings on the flanks, so they pounded away on the outside, creating several chances to get in the box.  It wasn't until about 18 minutes remained that they were able to execute, not outside, but up the middle.  Junior midfielder Amy Zepf took possession of the ball about 35 yards out, and played blazing junior Aggie Howland across the middle.  Howland collected, cut through a couple of Lumberjack defenders, and put it away to the far post.  The Warriors' defense held strong, with the one real scoring chance Oakwood could put together being stopped by a sliding Chelsea Ferguson.  The one goal lead would take the Warriors into the break to regroup.

The second half saw a beautiful brand of soccer by the Warriors, switching fields, building the attack out of the back. . . everything that should be done by a skilled team.  Less than three minutes into the second period, the Warriors unrelenting attack paid off.  Junior Amy Sattergren got the ball inside the goal box, and played across the face of the goal.  Sophomore striker Kelsey Hogan came in and nailed it into the back of the net to give the Warriors a two goal lead.  About 8 minutes later, the two connected again, with Hogan putting away a third chance given by the Jacks.  The Warriors remained in control for the better part of the half, thanks in large part to the defensive efforts of freshman Emily Moreton, juniors Sarah Dillman and Cece Ebelhar, and senior captain Ferguson.  Oakwood did eventually find their attacking 1/3 with around 7 minutes left.  Their best chance of getting behind the Warrior defense, however, was shut down once again by Ferguson.  They did earn 3 corner kicks within the last few minutes, and managed to knock one in amidst the chaos.  The Warriors would control the last three minutes, and take the 3-1 victory.

Next on the dockett - The Mayors' Cup, a double header with the guys against Indian Hill at Kusel.  The boys match begins at 5:00, and the girls headline at 7:00.  This is a CHL matchup for the ages.  See you there!

September 11, 2007
v. Indian Hill, #3 ranking, CHL rival

The weather was perfect, and the crowd was amazing.  Everything was set for the first year of the Mayors Cup, a friendly challenge between the mayors of Indian Hill and the three communities of Mariemont.  The stars of the show were the Lady Braves from the Hill, and our own Warriors.  And what a show it was!

The first half saw some of the best soccer the Warriors have played all season, controlling play from front to back, working the ball around the field, and executing their attack.  Chances by junior Aggie Howland and sophomore Megan Holland came close, but a few big time saves by the Indian Hill keeper snuffed them out.  Tremendous efforts by the defense of the Warriors, led by senior Chelsea Ferguson and junior Sarah Dillman kept every scoring threat by the Braves at bay.  The score was deadlocked at 0-0 at the half.

The second half saw a complete change in the tone of the game.  The Warriors began playing not to lose, and the Braves began playing to win.  With senior midfielder Meredith Snow controlling the midfield, Indian Hill put the Mariemont defense to a test they haven't seen yet.  As good as they were, though, the resilience of the Warriors was better, with Mariemont keeper Adele Bruggeman making some big time saves herself, the best coming with about 16 minutes remaining in the half, stretching out and deflecting a rip by Snow.  By this time, the Warriors had regrouped and had found their rhythm.  As the clock ticked under a minute, the energy level picked up for both squads.  Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan deflected a poorly played free kick by the Braves and played forward to junior striker Amy Sattergren.  She was off to the races!  Tracked close from behind, Sattergren made her way to about 20 yards out and hit the high shot.  The ball floated just under the crossbar for the score with about 40 seconds to go to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.  The edge held, as did the Warriors defense to record the victory.  Bruggeman notched 3 saves on the night for her second shutout of the season.

Next up for the Warriors - Seven Hills at Kusel on Saturday at 7:00 PM.  It should be another great battle!

September 15, 2007
v. Seven Hills, #7 city ranking

The night was cool, and conditions were perfect for a soccer match.  The Stingers from Seven Hills were playing down some key players, but as well as the Warriors played, it may not have made much difference.

The Warriors took control of the match from the opening whistle, and didn't let go for the entire half.  Chances came from all sides, led by the work of junior Amy Sattergren and sophomore Kelsey Hogan.  With about 14 minutes remaining, the chances paid off.  Freshmen Emily Moreton took control of the ball just across midfield, and played forward to Sattergren.  Sat took a touch and ripped the shot to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.  The Warrior defense, having to contain All State player Jen Williams and only allowing 3 shots in the half, was the real story behind the success of the half.  The narrow lead was all the Warriors could muster before the break.

The second half was a different story than the first.  The Warriors went on the attack immediately and didn't let up the entire period.  It began with Sattergren taking control of a ball on the left side less than a minute into the half and slotting a ball in from about 6 yards out.  Junior Andie Jackson nailed the first timer into the back of the net for the tally.  About 4 minutes later, Sattergren got behind the Stinger defense for a breakaway that she put away like a pro.  About 3 minutes after that, sophomore Megan Holland played in to Hogan, who cracked it in to the far post from about 15 yards out to give the Warriors the 4-0 lead.  At about the 25 minute mark, it was Sattergren again involved in the attack, playing junior Aggie Howland out wide.  Howland took her touch straight at the Seven Hills keeper, and ripped it right under her legs.  Before the half would end, the Warriors would earn a corner kick, where none other than Sattergren served one up, finding senior Chelsea Ferguson to put it away for the 6 goal lead.  Seven Hills ended the game with a penalty kick with about 7 seconds remaining to spoil the shutout for the Warriors.

The Warriors play host to Summit Country Day on Monday night, in what should be another great matchup.  See you there.

September 17, 2007
v. Summit Country Day

Well, although their best was not part of the story tonight, the Warriors still managed to put on a show.

In one of the sloppiest games seen this season, the Warriors and the Knights both had difficulty establishing possession or a rhythm to the game.  The Warriors defense allowed 5 shots in the first half, all of which were saved by junior keeper Adele Bruggeman, but were only able to pull off two of their own.  It was their second shot, however, that proved to be the difference.  Sophomore midfielder Claudia Carrelli took a misclear by the Knights and one-touched into the box to junior striker Amy Sattergren.  Sattergren turned and ripped it through the near post from about 18 yards out to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.

The second half saw a little bit prettier soccer, with the Warriors, led by the offensive efforts by sophomore Kelsey Hogan and Sattergren, assuming most of the control.  Bruggeman stopped all four shots Summit was able to muster, including a screamer off the crossbar.  The Warriors, behind great pressure by Sattergren, forced an own goal for the 2-0 cushion with about 10 minutes to play, and that's where the scoring would end.  The Warriors recorded their fourth shutout of the season, and extended their win streak to 7 games.  They play host to the Blue Devils on Wednesday for another exciting CHL matchup.  Come see all the action!!

September 19, 2007
v. Reading, CHL rival

After the performance Monday night, the Warriors needed to take the field with a new passion for the game.  They did not disappoint!

The night began with the JV squad hammering the Blue Devils 5-1.  Then the varsity took the field, and picked up right where the JV left off.  the Warriors immediately established possession and set the tempo for the match.  At about the 7 minute mark, sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan took control of the ball and crossed it in from about 10 yards out from the goal.  Junior striker Amy Sattergren was there for the finish to give the Warriors the early 1-0 lead.  About 7 minutes later, junior forward Andie Jackson collected the ball around midfield and played up and over the Reading backs finding none other than Sattergren on the run.  The Blue Devil keeper charged out, and with as much composure as we've seen all season, Sattergren touched it over the keeper's reach from about 25 yards out for the tally.  Remaining in control, the Warriors continued the assault.  With about 18:00 left in the period, sophomore Katie Weber played a ball up the right side for Hogan on the run.  Hogan touched to the inside, and put it away low to the far side netting for the comfortable 3-0 lead to take the Warriors into the break.

The second half began much like the first, with the Warriors in control.  The work rate of Reading, however, which gave Mariemont trouble in the first half, was still there, and still causing problems.  But within 5 minutes, the Warriors hit them again.  Hogan played the ball forward to Jackson from about 35 yards out, who fired a rocket from about 20 yards out over the Reading keeper.  Minutes later, the unrelenting attack paid off one more time.  Junior midfielder Aggie Howland cruised down the outside and slotted the ball across from about 10 yards out.  Sattergren touched it on past her defender, leaving the ball coming across for Jackson, who put it away for her second goal of the night.  The rest of the match belonged to the defense of the Warriors, led by senior Chelsea Ferguson, juniors Cece Ebelhar and Sarah Dillman, sophomores Megan Holland and Claudia Carrelli, and freshmen Emily Moreton and Emily Mehl.  The entire squad contributed to the win, with strong performances from reserves Ceeanna Zulla, Mackenzie Saffin, Stephanie Jones, and Megan Fakes.  Junior keeper Adele Bruggeman finished the night with 1 save to record her 4th shutout of the season.  Well done, Warriors!!

September 22, 2007
v. Cardinal Mooney, #6 State ranking

The Warriors knew travelling to Youngstown was going to be a challenge.  But they weren't prepared for what the Cardinals had in store for them.

Mooney took immediate control of the match, putting two goals in within the first five minutes, putting the Warriors on the defensive for the better part of the half.  The defensive efforts paid off, however, and the Warriors held the Cardinals off until the break.

The second half saw play balance out a bit, with scoring chances coming from sophomores Megan Holland and Ceanna Zulla, and junior Amy Sattergren.  The Warriors would go on to give up three more goals in the half.  At about the five minute mark, Holland would connect with fellow soph Kelsey Hogan to put one on the scoreboard and ruin the Mooney shutout - a bittersweet moment.  When all was finished, the Warriors were sent home to regroup as they prepare to take on a strong CHCA on Monday night.

September 24, 2007
v. CHCA, #9 ranking

The night was a perfect setting for a soccer match.  We're sure both teams remembered the Sectional Championship game, when the Eagles ended the Warriors season.  Fortunately, that was all the motivation the Warriors needed.

The first half saw a very balanced match by two quality sides.  There wasn't much of an attack from either squad, but both defenses played extremely disciplined soccer.  That defense would take both teams into the break with a 0-0 deadlock.

After an inspired half-time discussion, the Warriors came out in the second period a new team.  It didn't take long for the inspiration to pay off.  Junior midfielder Amy Sattergren played the ball in behind the Eagle defense to find sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan on the run.  Hogan cleaned it up, and struck a perfect ball from the corner of the penalty box to the far post, pinging it off and into the back of the net.  Not long after, Hogan returned the favor, playing Sattergren in.  Amy touched it forward, and struck a worm-burner to the far side net for the 2-0 lead.  The rest of the match remained in the hands of the Warriors.  Although they allowed a goal with about 3 minutes remaining, it wasn't enough for the Eagles to recover from the deficit, and Mariemont would head home with the victory.

Next up for the Warriors - the Yellow Jackets from Taylor, coming in with a 9-1-1 record and a virtually unstoppable attack.  Get ready for a great game, Warriors!!

September 26, 2007
v. Taylor, #4 ranking, CHL rival

The Warriors took the pitch with confidence. . . confident Taylor was going to give them a tremendous match, and confident they could stop them.  They were right on both parts.

Both squads came out with an intensity that is often found in this matchup, with Taylor playing direct, and Mariemont playing a possession style.  The defensive work by both sides was fantastic.  Led by junior keeper Adele Bruggeman, the Warriors back line of senior captain Chelsea Ferguson, junior Sarah Dillman, and freshman Emily Moreton held the Yellow Jackets to only two shots in the half, with Bruggeman only having to save one.  As good as the Warriors were in the back, they were even better through the midfield, led by sophomores Megan Holland, Kelsey Hogan, Sanam Zahedi, and juniors Amy Zepf and Aggie Howland.  That defense is what led to the eventual game winning goal.  Howland played the ball up and over the Taylor backs, finding Hogan on the run up the right side.  Hogan took one touch past the Taylor defender, then slotted a perfect ball across to junior Amy Sattergren who put it away for the 1-0 lead.  That one goal would take the Warriors into halftime to plan for the next forty minutes.

The second half saw control somewhat balanced, but it was the Warriors who put things together.  While holding the Yellow Jackets to just two more shots, Mariemont put together attacks from several players.  Junior Cece Ebelhar had a close chance snuffed out by a great save by the Taylor keeper, and Sattergren had a couple of chances also shut down.  But with about 15 minutes remaining in the game, things happened just right.  Holland blazed down the side committing three defenders, then played across at the top of the box.  Junior forward Andie Jackson took the cross, turned and played one more on to Hogan.  She took a touch into the box past the last defender, and put it away to the far post.  The defense held, Bruggeman (2 saves) recorded her fifth shutout of the season, and the Warriors notched one more victory in the CHL.  Well done, Warriors!  Well done!

We travel to Columbus this weekend to take on Bexley, the #1 ranked team in Ohio.  Go get 'em girls!

September 29, 2007
v. Bexley, #1 State ranking

Well, it didn't take long for the Lions to show why they are the #1 ranked team in the state!

In the span of 6 minutes, due to tremendous talent, and some lackadaisical defending, Bexley uncorked three goals on an awestruck Warrior side.  After the initial shock, the Warriors composed themselves and held the Lions to 4 shots the rest of the match.  Bexley, however, held the Warriors to three shots on the day, shutting them out for only the third time this season.

The Warriors travel to Madeira on Wednesday to battle the Zons for a shot at the CHL title.

October 3, 2007
v. Madeira, #1 City ranking

They're good!  Really good!

October 10, 2007
v. Deer Park, CHL rival

Senior night is always a night we look forward to at Mariemont.  The spirit was there, the energy was there, and the scoring power of the Warriors was definitely there.

Four minutes into the game, junior Amy Sattergren started a barrage of scoring that hasn't been seen from a Mariemont side in quite a while.  Taking a feed from sophomore Kelsey Hogan, Sattergren collected the ball and banged it in from about 18 yards out.  Minutes later, junior Andie Jackson hit a first timer on a slotted ball from fellow junior Aggie Howland.  In less than a minute, it was Hogan hitting the first timer fed in from Sattergren.  About a minute and a half later, it was Jackson again cleaning up a shot off the crossbar by Howland.  And about two minutes later, Hogan cracked another one from the top corner of the penalty box.  Before the half would end, sophomore Ceanna Zulla would get in on the action, putting away her first varsity goal.  The Warrior defense would hold the Wildcats to zero shots.

The second half looked much like the first.  Sattergren would again lead it off about 12 minutes in to the period on another feed from Howland (4 assists on the night).  Another goal by Hogan would come about a minute later on a ball played in by sophomore Megan Holland.  Sophomore Michelle Taylor made her debut with the varsity in fine fashion, scoring two goals, one on an assist by senior captain Chelsea Ferguson, in the final 18 minutes of the match.  Sophomore Sanam Zahedi would also put away a Holland corner kick.  When all was said and done, the Warriors walked away with the victory, junior keeper Adele Bruggeman and freshman keeper Timia Ingram would combine for one save on the night for the Warriors 6th shutout of the season.  They finish their regular season at 11-5-0, and prepare to take on Williamsburg on Monday at Kusel in the opening round of the state tournament.  Go get 'em girls!!

Octber 15, 2007
v. Williamsburg, Sectional Tournament

The opening round of tournament is always exciting, knowing it's one and out, and the level of play has to be at the peak.  The X factor is the strength of the competition.  It didn't take long to find out.

The Wildcats from Williamsburg and the Warriors spent the first few minutes of the match looking for each other's weaknesses.  About 7 minutes in, the Warriors started hitting. . . hard.  Junior Andie Jackson put away two goals within 27 seconds of one another on feeds from juniors Amy Zepf and Amy Sattergren.  A couple of minutes later, Sattergren put one away on a slotted ball by Aggie Howland.  Before the half would expire, Howland would finish two, and Jackson would record her first career hat trick to give the Warriors a 6-0 lead at the half.

The second half didn't look much different, with sophomore Kelsey Hogan (4 assists on the night) notching a tally two minutes into the period.  Before the final whistle, Howland and Sattergren would each add another, and junior Sarah Dillman would record her first varsity goal.  Keepers Adele Bruggeman and Timia Ingram combined for one save to record their 7th shutout.

Up next for the Warriors - McNicholas, Thursday night at Kusel.  This should be a great matchup, one you won't want to miss.

October 18, 2007
v. McNicholas, Sectional Championship

A perfect night for soccer.  What did the Warriors know about the Rockets coming into this game?  They knew they had to play well!  And that they did.

The pace of the match was insane from the outset.  And within two minutes, junior striker Amy Sattergren scored an insane goal.  Winning the ball from the McNick sweeper, she took it in, touched it by the keeper, and finished it untouched for the early 1-0 lead.  Play would remain mostly in the midfield for the better part of the period, with the best chances coming from 20+ yards out for the Rockets, four of which saved by junior keeper Adele Bruggeman.  With under a minute remaining in the half, junior midfielder Aggie Howland found space behind the McNick defense, and slotted the ball in about the 6.  Sattergren was right where she needed to be to put it away for her second goal of the night.  The Warriors took the 2-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw the same intensity as the first, with the Rockets putting even more pressure on the Mariemont defense.  About 13 minutes in, the Warriors found the eventual game winner.  Sattergren took the ball out of the air about midfield, played forward, then centered in behind the McNick defenders.  Junior Andie Jackson, on a full sprint and being challenged both from behind and by a charging goalie, touched the ball up and over the Rocket keeper from 20 yards out, dropping it in for the 3-0 lead.  Minutes later, however, McNick would get on the board with a bomb from about 40 yards out.  Then with about 2:20 remaining, they struck again from distance to narrow the lead to one.  But about 25 seconds later, the Warriors iced it.  Junior midfielder Amy Zepf collected a Jackson service on the outside, then served it in from outside the box about 6 yards off the endline.  It was Jackson crashing in with the header from about 8 yards out to put the score at 4-2 in favor of the Warriors, too much for the Rockets to recover.

Tremendous defense, led by Bruggeman (9 saves), junior Sarah Dillman, and sophomores Megan Holland and Sanam Zahedi, kept the Rockets from getting in too close.  The Warriors improve their record to 13-5-0, and clinched their 10th straight Sectional Championship.  Well done, Warriors!!

October 22, 2007
v. Indian Hill, District Semifinal

It was a cold and rainy night.  Conditons were not ideal for a soccer match, and one team's season would come to an end.  Unfortunately, it was not the Warriors night to move on.

The first half saw both squads put together times of dominance, but neither could put the ball in the back of the net.  The 0-0 deadlock would hold until the break.

The second half saw a bit more intensity, but the intensity only paid off for the Braves.  About 20 minutes in, they managed to poke one in to take the 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, they were able to extend their lead, and before it was all over, they would manage one more goal, and advance to the District Championship.

Great season, Warriors!!  You should be proud!
