SURVEY each section to be read

-Determine the organization of the chapter.

-Survey the first pages for basic information, such as the title, author, and table of contents.

- Identify any study aids, such as chapter objectives, introductions, illustrations, summaries, bibliographies, glossaries.

QUESTION the material

 - Say the chapter title aloud, converting the title of the chapter into a main idea question

-Convert the heading or subheadings into questions.

          -Add questions from the back of chapter.

- Be sure to include questions requiring  interpretation, integration, and application of ideas.

         - Begin to answer the questions, using prior knowledge.

READ to find the answers to your questions.

-Circle key words or phrases that answer your questions.

-Read figures and tables, then relate them to the questions.

-Think about what you are reading and reread passages that are unclear.

-Try to visualize or create pictures in your mind as you read.

RECITE the answers to your questions in your own words.

-Restate, paraphrase, summarize the information in your own words.

-Elaborate about the main ideas and relationships between ideas, using examples.

-Write brief answers in your own words.

-Use charts, diagrams, and symbols to help answer the questions.

 

REVIEW

           -Read questions; recite/write answers; refer to text: and add,

           correct, or delete information.

           -Ask the teacher to explain ideas that you did not fully understand.

          - Repeat the review after a week.
