GRADING CRITERIA
HOMEWORK

Homework  will come from the review questions at the end of each section of a chapter. These H.W.'s will be called SQ3R assignments. There will also be a chapter review packet. All homework assignments need to be completed in a neat fashion and properly labeled. Complete sentences should be used when responding to open ended questions. Homework assignments are given two days in advance of the due date. More time is given to review packets. Missed homework assignments can only be made up for credit if the student  has a excused absence. Unexcused absence homework is not accepted. Home works are assigned a number value and graded. The final homework average will be equal to one test score at the end of the quarter.

QUIZZES
There will be 7-9 quizzes per quarter. They are all announced in advance and are over the chapter section review questions. The quiz average at the end of the quarter will equal a test score.

TESTS
There will be 4 to 5 Chapter tests given per quarter. They are announced at least 4 days in advance. The tests are multiple-choice questions and essays. The essays will be given from a pool of essays given at the students at the beginning of the new unit.
At the end of the quarter, the lowest test score will be dropped. The remaining test scores, the homework average, and the quiz average will then be added up and divided for the quarter grade. The Semester Exams will only cover the material covered in that semester. The exam will be made up of 100 multiple-choice questions and essays from a pool of prepared essays.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
In the 2nd quarter, students will do a research paper on a historical event. Research has to be done from both the internet and book resources (no encyclopedia). The paper research a historical event.  Write three causes that led to the event and what was the result. Secondly change one of these causes and  describe the possible results . Independently, the students are to review the six strands for the social studies proficiency test. After review of each strand, the students are to take a practice test until passing that strand.
