MSF Unveils Recognition ring and Spirit Walkway Project

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) has unveiled an exciting new recognition and fund raising initiative at the Mariemont High School entitled, The Recognition Ring and Spirit Walkway Project.

The project involves the construction of a new sidewalk comprised of personally engraved brick pavers along the Mariemont High School auditorium turnaround area (named the Spirit Walkway) as well as a large Recognition Ring in the grassy area of the turnaround that will be created using bricks reclaimed from each elementary school in the District.  The Recognition Ring will also include a recognition wall where large donors to the Foundation will be honored.

According to MSF President Wendy McCracken, “These personalized pavers are a great way for people in the school district to recognize the achievements of their children at graduation or other individuals in the school district who have truly made a difference to their child’s educational experience.”

The idea was conceived by two members of the MSF Board of Trustees, Christine Kauffmann and David Faulk, early in the year and was approved by MSF Board of Trustees and the School Administration in April.  According to Kauffmann and Faulk, the goal of the project is to accomplish four key goals:

1)    Create a unified space where bricks from the original three elementary buildings are co-mingled

2)    Create a much needed sidewalk and attractive entrance area to the auditorium

3)    Celebrate our District students, families and faculty with a personalized brick

4)    Recognize and encourage individual and business giving to the Foundation

The funds generated from this exciting project will be used to finance school district initiatives that help sustain and enhance educational excellence.

Individuals interested in purchasing a personally engraved brick paver can go here for more information.

Foundation Announces New Robert D.Threlkeld Scholarship

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) is pleased to announce the formation of the Robert D. Threlkeld Scholarship. The scholarship is being established by Alan Threlkeld in honor of his late brother who was a 1962 graduate of Mariemont High School.

The scholarship awards $5,000 to a Mariemont High School graduating senior who completes 80 hours of community service, maintains a 2.5 or higher GPA and demonstrates financial need to continue his or her education.  Mr. Threlkeld intends to offer the scholarship annually for the next five years.

Wendy McCracken, President of MSF commented, “The Foundation is so pleased that Alan Threlkeld chose to honor his late brother with such a generous gift to a student who values giving back to the community. This significant scholarship will enable a student to continue his or her education and become a leader of tomorrow."

Alan Threlkeld and his brother Robert both attended Fairfax Elementary School before moving to Mariemont and enrolling in the high school which was then located on Wooster Pike. At the time of his death Robert Threlkeld lived in Carmel, Indiana.  Alan Threlkeld recently met with Mariemont City Schools Superintendent Paul Imhoff and Foundation President Wendy McCracken to tour the schools and to learn about the changes that have taken place in the school district since the 1960s.

A New Look For The Mariemont School Foundation

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) has unveiled a new look complete with a new logo, tagline and marketing support plan. “We are excited about the new identity”, Foundation President Wendy McCracken said, adding, “It is part of our renewed energy and commitment to increase the awareness and relevance of The Foundation in the coming years as part of our effort to generate additional revenue in these difficult financial times to support our mission; to sustain educational excellence in our School District.”

James Ferguson, a member of the Board of Trustees and Marketing Committee Chair, led the pro-bono branding initiative. “Our goal was to develop a new clean, fresh look for the organization as well as a clear marketing proposition that successfully educates our target audience about who we are, what we do and how we do it.  We have been a fairly quiet organization in the past with little to no community awareness. We want people to get excited about the great things we are doing in the School District which will motivate them to support our efforts.” Ferguson said.

The new logo and tag line “sustaining educational excellence” is just the start of an ongoing marketing effort, according to Ferguson.  A comprehensive marketing plan has also been developed which includes public relations efforts, direct mail initiatives, social media and local community events.

McCracken Elected President of The Mariemont School Foundation

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) has elected Wendy McCracken as its new President.  McCracken has been actively involved in the Mariemont School District for over 15 years in a number of organizations where she has filled many leadership roles. She has also served on the MSF Board of Trustees for the past three years and takes over the leadership position from Karen Herkamp, who recently completed her term as President. “Wendy is an excellent choice for our new President.  She has both the experience and vision to successfully lead this organization.” Herkamp said.

McCracken expressed great appreciation for Herkamp’s contribution to the organization and is excited about the future. “Karen's passion and commitment to the Foundation and the Mariemont School District have had an extraordinary impact on the effectiveness of this organization. Thanks to her we are poised to step up and meet the growing needs of the District as state funding continues to decline.” McCracken said. She added, “I am excited about the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of individuals on the Board of Trustees.  We have a lot of work to do to generate additional revenue for the Mariemont School District but I am confident that our communities will support our efforts.”

How one family is making a difference by supporting
a new Spanish Language curriculum

TAS Family Foundation Grant to Underwrite New Spanish Program

The Foundation has recently established the Mariemont School Foundation Spanish Language Fund that will provide an annual gift to the District to underwrite the salary of a Spanish language teacher and curriculum.  The curriculum will provide Spanish language learning to K-8 grades, with the primary focus on teaching 3rd-6th grade students.

The establishment of this Fund by Terrace Park parent, T. Anthony Sullivan, Jr., honors the memory of Mr. Sullivan’s Father, Thomas Anthony Sullivan, Sr.  The elder Sullivan established the TAS Family Foundation more than two decades ago to support education, students and faculty.  The Foundation is privileged to be stewards of this new Spanish Language Fund to benefit the Mariemont School District.

The TAS Family Foundation gifts are an example of the new opportunities the Mariemont School Foundation now seeks to bridge the seriously growing gap between State funding and the actual financial requirements of the School District.

Community Art Installation

The Community Art Installation, directed by acclaimed environmentalist, biologist, educator and writer of non-fiction for children, Ron Herschi, was supported by a gift from The Mariemont School Foundation. For this event at the Terrace Park, Mariemont and Fairfax Elementary Schools, banners were created to display a variety of student writings, art, and scientific observations.  These banners are displayed at each elementary school for the education and enjoyment of the entire school community.
