| The next unit your child will be studying in mathematics class this year is on the development on the understanding of fractions, decimals, and percents. We will be focusing on developing a deep understanding of rational numbers, rather than on rules and formulas for computation. In this unit, your child will learn the meaning of fractions, decimals, and percents, and will become comfortable moving among these three representations of rational numbers. You can help your child with his/her work for this unit by: 1. talking to your child about the ways you use fractions, decimals, and percents. 2. point out examples of how fractions, decimals, and percents are used in newspapers, magazines, and t.v. 3. look over your child's homework and make sure that all questions are answered and that explanations are clear.
