AP LATIN LITERATURE

 

 

Courses: 11, 12

Course Credit: 1 credit, 5 periods/week, full year

AP Latin - Latin Literature students develop their ability to read, translate, understand, analyze, and interpret the various works of Catullus (selected Poems) and Ovid (excerpts from Metamorphoses and Amores).  Students learn the scansion of various poetic meters (dactylic hexameter, elegiac couplet, and the hendecasyllabic line).  Students gain an understanding of the development of Latin lyric and elegiac poetry as literary genres.  Students explore the cultural, social, and political context of the literature through discussions.

Students will have the opportunity to take the AP Latin - Latin Literature exam in May.

Prerequisite: Latin III and the recommendation of the Latin teacher.
