AP LATIN VERGIL

Grade Level: 12
Course Credit: 1 credit, 5 periods/week, full year
AP Latin - Vergil students acquire a critical appreciation of Vergil's epic poem, the Aeneid. Students develop the ability to translate literally, to analyze, to interpret, to read aloud with attention to pauses and phrasing, and to scan the dactylic hexameter verse. Students also learn poetic and rhetorical devices, and figures of speech commonly used by Vergil. Students gain familiarity with Roman cultural, social, and political history through the study of the ancient epic as a literary genre.
Students will have the opportunity to take the AP Latin - Vergil exam in May.
Prerequisite: Latin IV or AP Latin Literature and the recommendation of the Latin teacher.
