Kuder Career Planning System
The web-based way of delivering career
planning activities to the students of Mariemont High School.
Students can keep track of their career plans, assess their interests
and skills, write a resume, develop an educational plan, search for
careers and colleges, and track their career development over time.
OCIS (Ohio Career and College Information System)
This site is a subscription service paid for by state of Ohio funds
earmarked by law for career education. The information is easy to
use and it is easy to maneuver through the site. One can do a quick
search, or use the directory for complete and detailed career
information. Ask a counselor for Mariemont High School's user
name and password.
IDEAS
(through the OCIS site...ask a Mariemont counselor for the
user name and password). Do a career interest survey online.
It only takes a few minutes and will relate your personality type to
those who are successful in various occupations.

9th
grade
Students take a career interest survey on the Kuder Career Planning
Website.
Students take a short interest survey, assess their own talents and
abilities, and match everything with a dozen career clusters. The
survey takes about 30 minutes and is done during the school day usually
during the 9th grade social studies course.
10th
grade
Students
have the option to take the PLAN test, which is primarily a
practice ACT test but also has a nice career interest and plans
component. It is our goal to enable students to begin to see
patterns in the directions they are heading. It is not our
goal to have any assessment "tell" students what they should
choose. The PLAN test is the identical format to the ACT, which
students take at the end of their junior year as they prepare for the
college application process. Although shorter, it gives students
an accurate prediction of how they will compete with peers on the real
ACT. Students who do not choose to take the PLAN test will
complete a career assessment called IDEAS located on the OCIS website.
11th
grade
During the fall, juniors will take a work values assessment via the
Kuder Career Planning website, then do some analysis and comparisons to
the assessments done in previous years. They can then use OCIS (click on "assessment
links") which provides a list of occupations that connect to the
career areas identified. Students will also register for PrepHQ, the college
planning and application tracking system useful in future plans
throughout junior and senior years of high school.
Also in the 11th grade, students begin preparing their
college documents.
Students write a sample college application essay and a resume and
complete a practice "Common Application."
12th
grade
Formal career surveys are not offered during the busy
senior year when students need to focus on college decisions. The
web-based tools continue to be available to seniors, as are personal
conferences and job-shadowing
.
