      Grades:

The grade scale for quarter grades is:   92-100   A

                                                                                  83-91     B

                                                              74-82    C

                                                              65-73    D

                                                               0-64    F

Quarter grades are determined as follows:  total # of points earned / total # of points

            possible x 100 =___%

After a percent grade is determined, a letter grade is then assigned.

Tests: 30-70 points each, depending on the amount of material covered; extra credit

questions are included on every test (minimum of 10% of total points).

Quizzes: 10-15 points each, 1-2 per chapter; 2-3 extra credit questions are included on

                every quiz.

Labs: usually 10-20 points each; 1-3 per chapter.

Homework: must be completed in blue or black ink unless otherwise specified by the

teacher or it will be returned to you (you may resubmit the assignment for a grade of

"incomplete"). Avoid disappointment - follow directions and refer to these pages often.

"Complete" - worth 3, 6 or multiples of three points; assignment is completed

according to teacher directions and shows evidence of sincere effort.

"Incomplete" - one-third point value of assignment is earned if at least half of the

assignment is done according to directions; the teacher reserves the

right to give a grade of "incomplete" for any assignment where it is

evident that sincere effort was not made by the student.

"0 points" - given for an assignment turned in late, less than half is completed,

directions were not followed, or assignment was copied (see

.                                                 Handbook for discussion or penalties for cheating/plagiarism).

In the case of copied papers, all parties involved will receive

case of copied papers, all parties involved will receive

                                                  a "0" for the assignment.

Notebook: 100 points possible per quarter; binder grade will be averaged in with other

grades for the quarter (see above). The purpose of this assignment is to keep you

organized for classroom and study purposes. Most of you will find that it helps your

quarter average. It is very important to follow directions given in class on the

organization of the binder if you wish to receive a satisfactory grade. Binders are to be

kept in order on a daily basis. Binder collections are unannounced. One other point:

never lend you binder to anyone. Your binder is yours and yours alone.

Enrichment: Extra points may be earned by students, who do extra work such as

reports ,posters, additional labs, chapter-enrichment sheets, or other teacher-

approved projects. The number of points awarded is the discretion of the teacher

and will depend on a number of factors including, but not limited to, effort, originality, g              neatness, extra research and time involved, and whether or not directions were followed.

As with "regular" assignments, you are not to copy an enrichment activity from anyone.

Doing so will result in all parties receiving NO credit.

Note: NO extra points will be awarded if a student has received a prior "0" for a missing

homework, test, quiz, or lab in the quarter. Enrichment is no substitute for assigned

                work.

*** All assignments (HWs, labs, binder, etc.) are due at the beginning of the bell,

otherwise, they are considered "late" and will not be graded, resulting in a grade of "0"

Library/Research Assignment: One research assignment will be required during the school

year and involves a PowerPoint presentation, a MLA-style Works Constituted page,

and an outline of information presented.

Makeup Work: (See your MHS Student Handbook.) If a student is absent, they are

responsible for obtaining missed work from their teachers. If a student knows in

advance they will miss one or more days of class/school, they are required to get their

assignments from all teachers before their absence. If a student is absent for part of the

day, they are to see the teacher(s) whose class(es) will be missed before leaving school,

or whose class(es) they have missed upon returning to school. It is best is you actually

see the teacher for any assignment or work missed rather than relying on a fellow

student for the information. See me if you have a question about these policies in

general, or as it pertains to your particular situation.

Note: In all cases, the student, NOT the teacher, is responsible for seeing these

                      obligations are met.
