About Mariemont Golf
Opportunities to play on one of the Mariemont golf teams begin in the 7th grade and continue through the Varsity program. Although Mariemont has not had a separate girls' golf team in the past, female student-athletes are encouraged to participate in the Mariemont golf program. If four or more female student-athletes participate, they are eligible to form a separate girls' golf team.
Golf is a fall sport in Ohio. Tryouts begin each year on August 1 for the Varsity and JV teams and a week later for the Junior High team. The Varsity and JV teams play 15 to 20 matches/tournaments and the JH team plays up to 14 matches/tournaments. The Varsity also plays in season ending CHL league and District II Sectional tournaments.
If a student-athlete is interested in participating in the Mariemont golf program, he or she should sign up on the Final Forms indicating a desire to try out for one of the golf teams. Physicals are also required to be completed before tryouts.
Gold is a wonderful sport. It not only builds character; it reveals character, and it teaches honesty and integrity in a competitive sports environment. Someone wrote recently that golf has nine core values: honesty, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, judgment, respect, perseverance, confidence, and courtesy. I couldn't agree more. These are important values not only for a student-athlete's years at Mariemont; they are also important life values. And golf is a sport that can be played and enjoyed for a lifetime. The game of golf will continue to be rewarding in a student-athlete's personal, family, social, and business life long after leaving high school, and it will continue to develop and strengthen a student-athlete's core values over a lifetime.
