  Grading Policy – Latin I

  2010 - 2011

  Magistra Good

 

The overall grade for Latin I is a weighted grade, based upon different categories of work completed.

** More weight is placed upon items completed individually during class or over an extended period of time.

  

A. Quizzes and Projects – 60 %

          - Quizzes cover:

Daily review

Work after a small unit of study

- Quizzes can be open or closed notes

Open notes – checking preparation for class or work during class

Closed notes – announced in advanced and students are informed what to review with a study guide or study sheet

           - Projects relate to cultural topics (e.g. gods/goddesses, Pompeii)

                        Require extended work over time for the students

                        Can involve creative work

 

B. Translation – 30%

          - Translation is a primary form of reading Latin, especially in lower levels

- Focus is placed on translating and being able to recognize the meanings of Latin sentences

- Translations may include matching Latin and English sentences or writing good English translations for Latin sentences and passages

          - Translations could be during class time or as homework assignments

 

C. Class work – 10%

          - Practice provided with supervision and guidance

- Students often complete this type of assignment alone, but with the aid of notes and Magistra

 

D. Practice: Homework and Online Review – 0%

  - Daily assignments are given to the students for practice / review / to be used as a ticket to begin the next class session

            - Provides practice / review of current unit OR is used to introduce a new topic

  - Grades posted online but not included in the student’s average for class
