2007 Sculptors of History
The Sculptors of History Project is one in
which 8th grade students are expected to research a significant
person from the past and then “become” that person in an oral presentation
on Sculptors of History Fair Day.
Students must first choose a subject
(Math/Philosophy, Language Arts, Science, Recent History, Ancient History,
Athletics or
Music/Art). The teachers
responsible for the individual subjects will assign to each student a
historically significant person for their research.
The teacher that the student has for that subject is his/her mentor for
the project. Each student must
thoroughly research the life of the person, write a list of questions and
answers, and prepare an oral presentation.
On Sculptors of History Fair Day, a group
of parent volunteers will act as judges and judge the students on their oral
presentation and how well the
student answers the questions. Every
student will be judged a total of 2 times with two different judges.
Each judge will use a tally sheet to score the student.
These sheets are then sent to a tally panel of volunteers.
When the presentations are completed, students are dismissed for lunch
and the scores are totaled. After
lunch, students attend an assembly where they will hear a speaker and then the
result of the totals and prize awards.
