FASHION DESIGN

FABRIC DESIGN

Fashion Design

 Grade level: 9,10,11,12

 Course Credit: ½ credit, 5 periods / week, one semester

 Description:

 Fashion design is a course which will enable the student to demonstrate the ability to create and initiate the application of fashion knowledge of trends and cycles in the area of apparel fashion.  The students will develop skills necessary for analyzing a figure type and to make selections of apparel and accessories appropriate for a given figure type. The principles and elements of design will be use in the evaluation of ready to wear apparel and accessories as well as the creation of apparel design sketches using the computer. A portfolio of sketches will be assembled.   Students will develop the ability to put together fashion displays and fashion shows.  Career options for fashion merchandising-“buyer”, color analyzing consultant, wardrobe consultant and fashion designer will be recognized.

FABRIC DESIGN

Fabric Design

 Grade Level: 9,10,11,12

 Course Credit: 1/2credit, 5 periods/ week, one semester

 Description:

 Fabric Design is a course which will enable students to learn the skills need to construct the fabrics to make apparel, an accessories.  An emphasis on the elements and principles of design will be studied as it related to the combinations of materials to produce the foundation of design. Students will learn a variety of techniques such as quilting, meshed lent, wovens and knits to create textures in fabrics. Topical designs will be introduced to inlay and /or overlay on the fabrics. Students will construct a major project using a personal designed fabric. Projects will be selected on individual skill levels. Fundamental skills of the sewing machine will be included to aid in the construction project.
