Business Courses and Descriptions
Leadership: 9-12 One Semester
Prerequisite: None
Leadership, a project-based course, develops student understanding and skills in such areas as communication skills, emotional intelligence, operations, and professional development. A service-learning project is the medium for course delivery and to encourage immediate implementation of leadership skills. The students will identify, plan, implement, and evaluate a service-learning project based on the needs of their community/school. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations to which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills.
Wealth Management: 9-12 One Semester
Prerequisite: None
This project-based financial literacy and investment course develops student understanding and skills in such areas as personal finance, types of investment, the stock market, and stock valuation. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the need for personal financial management and investing. An on-going investment project is used to encourage immediate implementation of financial literacy and investment skills. The students will develop a diversified, balanced investment portfolio based both on their interest in products and companies and on fundamental analysis. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations to which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills.
Principles of Business: 9-12 One Semester
Prerequisite: None
Principles of Business, a project-based business course, will open your eyes to the world of business. During the course you will be introduced to some of the major areas of business administration (marketing, management, and finance) through the use of fun, real-world projects. Current technology will be used to acquire information and to complete the projects. Speakers and field trips will be utilized.
Business Economics: 9-12 One Semester
Prerequisite: Principles of Business
Business Economics will help you
understand consumer spending, government policies, economic conditions, legal
issues, and global competition through practical, current applications to
everyday societal and business life. Decision matrices are introduced, and the
importance and costs of quality are stressed. Students develop their knowledge
and skills in such areas as economics, entrepreneurship, operations, and
professional development by working through current economic problems for which
they will be challenged to develop solutions.
Principles of Marketing: 10-12 One Semester
Prerequisite: Principles of Business and Principles of Economics
Principles of Marketing is a
project-based business course that develops student understanding and skills in
the functional areas of marketing: channel management, marketing-information
management, market planning, pricing, product/service management, promotion, and
selling. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of each of the
marketing functions and their ethical and legal issues. Decision matrices are
employed to aid in market planning. Taking of the CLEP Exam is paid by Great
Oaks.
Principles of Management: 10-12 One Semester

Recommended: Principles of Marketing
Keyboarding/Computer Applications: 9-12 One Semester
Keyboarding/Computer Applications skills are now required for college internships and careers beyond college. Students will learn the touch system of keyboarding as well as MS Office applications.
