Artistic Woodcraft

Course Credit: ½ credit, 5 periods/week, one semester
Description:
Artistic Woodcraft is a course which will enable students to learn the art of woodcarving, wood sculpture, and woodturning. Students will create artworks that are one sided relief carvings, using carving chisels and rotary tools. Students will also create sculptural works that are in the round and will use a variety of woodworking machines such as a bandsaw, jointer, tablesaw, planer and sanders. Students will also have an opportunity to use a wood lathe to make a variety of creative wood projects. Students will learn a variety of wood finishing techniques such staining, painting, burning, and clear protective finishes that enhance and beautify natural woods. The use of woodworking hand tools and machines will be extensive, orderly and safe working habits will be heavily emphasized.
