Mariemont High School senior Collin Widecan signed a letter of intent to the University of Cincinnati for football. Collin played defensive back, wide receiver and long snapper for the Mariemont Warriors.
"I've been around football my entire life," said Collin, whose father is the associate athletic director and director of football operations at the University of Cincinnati. "I started going to football camp as a kid, and I've just never looked back."
Collin comes from a UC family. His older sister is a senior at the College of Nursing; his father, John, has worked for 26 seasons at UC; and his mother, Michelle, finished her doctorate from UC in nursing and is now an adjunct professor and the lead nurse practitioner in emergency services at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Collin's younger brother, JP, attends Mariemont Elementary School.
Collin's parents, John and Michelle, moved to Mariemont in 1992, claiming they "found Mariemont by accident and have loved it ever since."
"The schools and the village have always kept us here despite other opportunities that have come our way," said John.
Collin plans to major in actuarial science and statistics at UC. He currently has a 3.9 GPA at Mariemont High School.
"The Warrior mottos of 'One Heartbeat' and 'Be Better' made me want to challenge myself," said Collin. "The football team is a family and I'm proud to call myself a Warrior. Playing football here is an experience I'll never forget, but I look foward to what the future will bring."
