Things are going well for our sports teams, and our athletes over the winter season.
Senior Joe Veeneman is a finalist for the National Football Foundation’s That’s My Boy Award for the Cincinnati Chapter, and is also a finalist for the Anthony Munoz Foundation Offensive Lineman of the Year Award. Jon Bezney was the last person we had nominated, and won the award. Hopefully Joe can as well. The recognition dinner for the award is Feb 28.
The girls basketball team is atop the CHL with a 9-0 CHL record and 12-2 overall. The team moved up a spot in the Enquirer D2 poll to 3rd, and is the highest ranked Cincinnati team I the poll. The team is at Ross tonight, Wyoming on Wed, and at Deer Park on Sat. Saturday game times are now 12 and 1:30.
The boys basketball team is in 2nd in the CHL after Friday’s win over Madeira. The team won the Patriot Invitational over Christmas Break by beating Eaton and Dayton Jefferson. The team has been flirting with the Enquirer’s top 10, and bounced up to 8th this week. The teams play Taylor at home on Wednesday this week, yes Wednesday, and travel to Indian Hill on Friday at 430/6/730. The team is playing very strong defense. We had a great crowd for Military Appreciation Night Friday, which was a statewide event, and we will have a Wipe Out ALS game on Feb 3 vs Mason (freshmen) and Deer Park for JV and Var.
The swimming and diving teams have been having sensational seasons. Divers Charles Schools and Kami Spang have set diving records this year, and Cora Dupre has broken 4 pool or school records so far this season. The medley relay missed the record by .07 of a second. The girls finished 3rd at the SW Classic, the highest finish ever at the Nation’s largest HS Meet, and are currently 2nd in the Enquirer poll by one point, and the boys have jumped to 3rd. Every meet, swimmers are setting personal bests and season best times. The CHL Championships are here on Feb 3 for diving and the 4th for swimming. It will be an outstanding meet.
The wrestlers had a good showing at Ross over the weekend with Drew Goheen and Riley Gulino taking 1st place. We have senior night here on the 12th with Madeira and Purcell Marian, and it was fun to have a match here, and to have senior night. The wrestlers have one more tournament and then have the CHL and Sectionals.
