Winter Wrap Up

What a busy time of the season the last couple of weeks have been!  The Warriors have once again gone deep onto the post season with a number of memorable seasons now in the record books.

Leading things off are our swimming and diving teams.  Under the leadership of Head Swim Coach Kevin Maness and head Diving Coach Ray Noble, the Warriors took 16 swimmers and divers (8 boys, 8 girls) to the State Championships in Canton, Ohio.  Junior Charles Schooler finished 10th in diving and freshman Jacob Cox finished 19th, not bad for his first trip to Canton.  The Varsity Girls Swim Team, who once again captured the CHL Championship, Sectional Championship, and District Championship, continued their march into the post season to a State Runner title in 2016!  This is the girls second consecutive State Runner Up in swimming, and is quite an accomplishment for a school of Mariemont's size.  And to add to the team accomplishment, senior Leah Dupre was the State Champion in the 100m Breaststroke!  The girls had a number of outstanding races: The 200 Medley Relay finished 2nd (Brooke Woellert, Sadie DeCamp, Leah Dupre, Lainey Newman), 2nd Place in the 200 Free Relay (Leah, Rachel Munschauer, Lainey, and Cora Dupre), 3rd Place in the 400 Free Relay (Brooke, Rachel, Cora, and Nina Morgan), Sadie 14th in the 100 Back, Brooke 12th in the 100 Back and 4th in the 200 IM, Rachel 6th in the 100 Free and 15th in the 100 Back, Kate Overbey 10th in the 100 Breaststroke, Cora 4th in the 100 free and 9th in the 200 Free.    The boys finished 10th in the 200 Medley Relay (Chris Spooner, Collin Widecan, Scott Overbey, Ian Mikesell), Ian Mikesell 6th in the 100 breast.  A great weekend for our Water Warriors!  Congratulations!

Junior Riley Gullino qualified for the District Wrestling Championships in Wilmington.  Congratulations!

The Varsity Girls Basketball team marched through the regular season and into the sectional tournament, racking up a 24-1 record, including 14-0 on the way to their CHL Championship and a sectional championship.  The team led Tippecanoe for the majority of the district championship game, being tied with the Red Devils only at halftime and at the ending buzzer.  The Lady Warriors fell in overtime, ending their season as District Runner up.

The amazing winter will lead right into an exciting season with all of our teams now underway!  Good luck to all of our athletes!
