Mariemont High School Alumni Association - Minutes

The Mariemont High School Alumni Association (MAA) met at Mariemont High School on November 2, 2010.

Present: Jim Singler, Holly Thompson, Mark Evans, Jackie Wineland, Alison Wenstrup, Renee Hammond, Hanna Minor, Heather Joseph, and Jackie Schneider

TREASURER’S REPORT

Holly reported that we have $1,005.00 in the checking account.  The $75.00 profit from the Homecoming Tailgate has not yet been deposited.

MARIEMONT SCHOOL FOUNDATION

Jackie S. reported that Jim has stepped down as the MAA representative to the Foundation (MSF).  We need a new alumni representative.  She advised that the commitment to MSF is serious and entails a real commitment to working on the group’s projects.  Mark may be interested.  He will talk to Wendy McCracken, President of MSF.

SOCIAL REPORT

Alison and Hanna presented the idea of having a service project involving alumni during the holiday season.  Renee will list some potential ideas for projects and will check with the Marielders, as well.  They would like to have a Spring membership drive event – maybe at Hahana Beach.

MARKETING MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Lisa was not at the meeting so there was no report this month.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT

Heather has received some e-mails through the website from businesses advertising locations to hold reunions.  There was discussion about trying to have a presence at any reunions and have the MAA brochure at all events.  If not all events, we should at least provide brochures for the major years: 10, 20, 25. 30, etc.  Heather will e-mail our brochure to any class contact she is aware of.   She has also put up photos from the golf outing on the website.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD REPORT

Jackie W. reported on the second meeting held by this committee.  Jackie W, Mike and Mark are members of this committee.  They met to get organized and establish a purpose and a timeline for the first award.   The goal for the first presentation is Spring 2012.  They will be looking for donations from alumni and MSF.  The award will concentrate on the post-high school accomplishments of alumni.  This award will fall under the direction of MSF, and Peggy Landes will most likely be the chairperson.

ARCHIVES REPORT

Jackie W. reported that MAA will share a room with MSF in the renovated Mariemont Elementary school in 2012.  She also advised that she has talked to Jim Renner about a competition for the high school’s advanced art class.  The contest would be to create a sketch of the high school building.  Maybe we could award a $100.00 gift to the winner to be used for supplies.  We might even be able to use a print of the work as a fundraiser for MAA.

Alison made the motion to approve expenditure of $100.00 as the award for the art contest.  Hanna seconded the motion.  The motion was unanimously approved.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Jim advised that the alumni directories have been mailed.

GOLF OUTING FOR 2011

Mark reported that he talked to the folks at CRC.  He is looking at Glenview golf course in Forest Park or California golf course on Kellogg Avenue for the 2011 golf outing.  These courses have better facilities than Avon.  The cost would be the same as this year.  Even though the green fees may go up $6.00, we can keep the cost under $60.00 per player.  Mark will check to see what is available in August.  We discussed the possibility of combining this event with MSF.  Mark will talk to Wendy McCracken about this possibility.

OTHER BUSINESS

Renee will check with Gordon Hammersmith about the possibility of getting another banner made.  We have not located the banner that we had.

Jackie W. will look into the cost of a banner located at the high school football field.

NEXT MEETING

Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM in C-20 at the High School.  We are adjourned.
