It's About Tradition: Ian

Ian (Class of 2019)

One of the great traditions here at Mariemont City Schools is that the students are able to express themselves through involvement in a variety of activities and classes. If you ever have the opportunity to talk to Ian about his day-to-day life, you will immediately know that you've met someone who is embracing what Mariemont City Schools has to offer. A well-rounded individual, Ian is a dedicated athlete, artist, adventurist, brother, friend, traveler and 1st generation Mariemont City School District student.

Ian is a member of the junior high swim team that won the City League Championship in 2014. His favorite stroke is the backstroke although he loves to swim the individual medley. Ian also enjoys being part of the MJHS cross country team and plays lacrosse. Sports are a fun way for him to meet new people at the junior high and spend time with the friends he's had since elementary.

Beyond sports, Ian is interested in art.  Ian has created animation in digital art class and worked with the Art Club to decorate and donate a rain barrel to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden to be auctioned off as part of the “Save Local Waters” project. In addition to these fun experiences, Ian has had artwork shown across the city and state and has been interviewed by a local news station to discuss his artwork displayed at the Aronoff Center in downtown Cincinnati.

While Ian embraces sports and the arts, he is also an inspired Honor Roll student (“I got my first B in 2nd grade but I haven’t had one since.”).  When talking with Ian, one will see he is really excited and proud to have earned the distinction of Math Jedi in Mr. Willis’s Algebra I class, and he also enjoys science where he was chosen as Student of the Month.  It was in science class where Ian was inspired by a dissection project to one day become a surgeon, and as a result of the experience changed his language selection to Latin.

Outside of school, Ian finds time to hang out by the pool, hit around golf balls at The Bell Tower in Mariemont, travel with his family and take trips to Jungle Jim's to find exotic foods to try at home.

“One of my favorite things about going to school is seeing my friends and having them around in all of my classes, clubs and teams,” said Ian. “Also, it’s great to go to a school where there are so many choices that you wish you had a bigger schedule so you could fit it all in.”
