It's About Tradition: Holly

Holly (Class of 2014)

Academic success and a variety of academic opportunities is a tradition within the Mariemont City School District. Holly is one student who has lived this tradition. She has taken 10 AP level courses, from AP Chemistry to AP Studio Art to AP Calculus. The AP Government class recently had a visit from Cincinnati City Councilman Chris Smitherman, who gave an enthusiastic lecture on his perspective on the streetcar project. The College Board named Holly as an AP Scholar with Honors by the College Board, in recognition of her exceptional achievement on college-level Advanced Placement Program courses and exams. She is also a National Merit Semifinalist, scoring in the top one percent of nearly 1.6 million students.

Holly is tutor through Leadership Council and has helped plan a 5K fundraiser through her involvement with Key Club. She is also involved in a variety of other extracurricular activities, such as Student Curriculum Committee, Latin Club, the spring musical and soccer, in which she received the Warrior Award for good sportsmanship.

"Ours is a smaller school district but it has breadth in the activities that it offers and depth to those activities. Students are able to get involved in anything and start something new at any time in their school careers to widen their horizons. Everybody is encouraged to get involved and succeed. The different AP courses I've taken have prepared me for college because they have all been challenging and academically rigorous. But I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of, and I know that if I work hard and dedicate myself I can do well.”
