It's About Innovation: David Valentine

Preparing students for the future is part of our mission here at Mariemont City Schools. We challenge every student to engage in relevant and innovative learning. Teachers like David Valentine make that possible. Mr. Valentine is the Digital Video instructor at Mariemont High School and the STEM instructor at Mariemont Junior High School and Mariemont High School. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. Students in Mr. Valentine’s classes are encouraged and given the tools to collaborate, create and dream big. His 7th grade students learn how to build and program robots. His high school learners designed and created an authentic solution to a design problem and 3D print the solution; created a 30-second Doritos commercial for the Doritos Super Bowl ad competition; and utilized 3D modeling software for designing and engineering objects, such as cell phone cases and coaster set.

Mr. Valentine also worked with students to create a historical video for the Mariemont Preservation Foundation and the Terrace Park Historical Society. And he helped initiate the Hour of Code at Mariemont Junior High School this year.

He also brings innovation to his junior high cross country team. As head coach, he runs over 300 miles each season with them for training. He developed a “Clue Run” for the team to help make running fun and educational around our city, and he initiated a competitive workout at the South 80 with Indian Hill and Madeira, to foster the relationships of our broader community of runners.

Mr. Valentine is also the District Technology Supervisor and the Mariemont High School STEM Club sponsor. Teachers like Mr. Valentine help our students become leaders of tomorrow.
