It's About Innovation: Andrew

Andrew Banner

It would be prudent of you to ask Andrew for his autograph now. With dozens of films already under his belt, Andrew has set his sight on Hollywood and would love to be among the greats like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. “Spielberg was so out there and original and inventive,” said Andrew. “I am inspired to be as well known and well loved as his films are.” And George? “I hope to be as ambitious as he was in the beginning of his career.”

As far as ambition goes, Andrew already has that in the bag.

Andrew first shared his stop motion animation with his school for the 4th grade talent show. “Midnight in Mariemont” was a hit and he has created 21 stop motion films to date since that first production. He has also established a production house, AJF Studios.  “The first Lego YouTubers inspired me. I watched these short films hundreds of times and was hooked; I knew it was something I could do.”

In 6th grade he made his first live action film, titled "The Ghost of Mariemont," as part of an extra credit project for science class. The goal of the assignment was to present compelling evidence of something that isn't real – his teacher was trying to teach the kids not to believe everything they see and read even when it looks believable. Andrew has since then created two more live action films for school.

Andrew is grateful for his time in the Mariemont City School District, where he has attended school since kindergarten. “I have been able to expand my range and challenge myself through assignments that allow me to create and express my ideas and knowledge through movies.” He said having access to green screen technology has also helped him with his filmmaking.

He plans to make his first feature length film in the next year or so and said that it will most likely be "Star Wars" related. Ultimately, he hopes to become a movie director in Hollywood after attending film school at Boston University. In the meantime, Andrew plays trumpet in the band, participates in school plays and musicals and swims a mean backstroke for the swim team. He also received straight As last school year.

His videos are currently available to view on YouTube and in class assignments coming soon.
