It's About Community: Caroline

Caroline (Class of 2020)

A school is only as good as the community around it and vice versa. Caroline is one of many students whose life in the community and life at school overlap on a daily basis. Caroline rode her bike to school today, and parked her bike among the dozens of others on the bike racks outside of the elementary school building. Midday, her mom met her at school and they walked home to eat lunch together. Before the last bell for the day, Caroline is suited up and ready to direct foot and road traffic in her duty as a crossing guard on the corner outside of school. At the end of the day, she rides around the neighborhood and then rides her bike home. Caroline volunteers at various events throughout the school year, such as Circle of Friends, Giving Tree and PumpkinFest, which one of the school’s largest fundraisers as well as a much-enjoyed community event.  She had family visit during Parent Grandparent Day, and learned about pioneer living at sixth grade camp at Camp Kern.

“My favorite thing about going to school here is that it is easy to make friends here. You don’t just interact with your class, you interact with your whole grade and even the rest of the grades throughout the school year. The teachers make it fun to get involved in school, creating fun projects and activities for us. I enjoy being involved in my school because it’s easy to do so many different things and it is easy to meet new people.”
