2017-18 to Destination 2026

2017-18 to Destination 2026

Welcome back to what is sure to be another great year in Mariemont City Schools!  I hope your summer was a time for some rest and relaxation and spending valuable time with family and friends.

I always love the start of a new school year because of the promise it brings. In the next nine months we will have the opportunity to learn new skills, discover interests and create change in our community and our world. I smile thinking of all the wonderful things our students and staff will accomplish this school year!

And we definitely have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.

With Destination 2026 as our guide, we will continue our focus to implement instructional best practices in classrooms and create meaningful learning for our students.  This will mean expanding our Warriors BEyond program and investing even more time into experiential learning. At the Mariemont City School District we believe that students’ interests and passions are driving factors in their desire to learn and grow. Warriors BEyond presents the opportunity for our students to get real-life experiences and enjoy learning, transforming them from our scholars of today into our leaders of tomorrow.

New this year to the Warriors BEyond program is the high school Intersession, a week-long learning experience designed to help students become globally competent, establish valuable relationships, authentically build content knowledge and understand the importance of communication and collaboration. During this week in May our high school students will demonstrate self-awareness, independence, and ownership of their learning, be curious, creative and demonstrate passion, be critical thinkers, and ultimately have fun learning.

Intersession courses are designed to let students choose based on personal interests. These courses range from adventurous outdoor activities, to community service opportunities, to college and career explorations, and more. I’ll be sharing much more about this great new opportunity for our students in the coming months!

We will also continue our work this year to develop a master facility plan for Mariemont High School.  This fall, parents and community members will partner with us on facility teams to continue exploring solutions for the challenges we face in our nearly 50-year old high school.  I encourage you to stay engaged with this work as we will need to make very important decisions soon in order to finalize the plan by spring 2018.  We have a section on our website dedicated specifically to this work to be open and transparent about progress, feedback and decisions.

As with every new school year, my goal is to exceed your expectations as we work together to educate and inspire our kids.  Please stay connected with us via social media, our website, this blog and the many other mediums we use to tell the great story that is Mariemont City Schools.  Let’s have a great year!
